"It's All About Face", theme of this year's event, is generated and designed by Jackie Du, Executive Creative Director of Ogilvy & Mather Taiwan. The creative concept may be expressed by the body copy of the award advertisement:
"Don't talk about sportsmanship, this is all about face. Competing professionals aren't gracious and competing ads are just a matter of face. Ads are the face of a product, its benefit is inside. Here at the Times Asia-Pacific Advertising Awards, the kings of the hill congregate but leave behind the attitude that there can only be one king of the hill. They bring the fruits of their labor, drafts and films and images. They put away claws sharpened by the daily struggle to reach the top, put aside their stubbornness and hot tempers, and play fair, and let the judges decide who is most deserving. Even though it's all about face, there's still a bit of the sportsman to be found."
The Times Asia-Pacific Advertising Awards is entering an impressive 12th year. In addition to its original award categories, the Online Advertising Awards was added last year to honor the outstanding ad works of the Internet new media. Three of the Internet elites, Vivian Lau (Director of SmarTone Broadband Services Limited, Hong Kong), Graham Kelly (Regional Creative Director of Ogilvy Interacitve, Singapore) and Raymond So (ex-EVP of Pacific Century Cyber Works, Taiwan) have already confirmed to be invited as the judges of the online ad awards for the time being. All entries from the Asia-Pacific Region are welcome to present their excellence in the competition.
Each year, internationally acclaimed advertising professionals are invited to serve on our panel of judges to raise the standard of the event and the quality of the learning opportunities. With the distinguished contributions of our visiting judges, the Awards programs have been further improved and definitely played a significant role in the Region now. Regarding this year's Awards, Yukio Nakayama (Dentsu, Japan), Yasuaki Iwamoto (Hakuhodo Creative Vox, Japan), Danny Searle (Clemenger BBDO, Australia), Linda Locke (Leo Burnett, Singapore), Craig Davis (Saatchi & Saatchi, Hong Kong), Piyush Pandey (Ogilvy & Mather, India) and Lo Sheung Yan (JWT, China) have confirmed to participate in the judge panel of this year's awards. The chairman of the judge panel will be also invited to address in the 2001 AdAsia.
